Remove rolled grain
After approximately 6-8 weeks of play, around the end of May, enough of the played-out grain particles have accumulated on the tennis court surface that the quality of the tennis court is significantly impaired.
The loose grain particles no longer bond with the brick dust layer and must be removed.
Removing the rolled grain doesn't require many tools: a street broom, a wheelbarrow and a brick dust shovel are all that's needed.
Moisten the tennis courts for a few minutes using the sprinkler system or a hose. If the tennis courts are too dry, using a steel broom will damage the surface and remove too much material.
Then, systematically sweep the playing area behind the baseline with a street broom. Take care not to push the broom too hard or too often; the goal is only to remove loosely adhering grain.
As a final step, a little very fine brick dust is thrown onto the tennis court to prevent it from being too slippery.
